Committee Descriptions
Are you looking for a way to become an active member of the Covert Community? Joining one of Covert PTA’s numerous committees is a great way to share your talents and support our kids, while making new friends along the way.
Your Support and enthusiasm will help ensure the continuation of wonderful activities that enrich the school experience and create so many cherished memories for all of our children. Thank you!
Arts in Motion (AIM) – This committee is responsible for bringing enrichment programs into the school for our children to enjoy. These programs cover the worlds of dance, art, music, literature, and culture. Help select these performances by attending showcases arranged by Regional PTA. The chairperson and co-chair are also voting members on the executive board.
Adult Night Out - Parents need a night out too! Be part of planning a fun-filled adult night out!
Audit – This committee meets in the summer to audit the Treasurer’s bookkeeping
Bicycle Safety – This committee is responsible for organizing and assisting during the Bicycle Safety Program in September.
Book Fair – This committee organizes the book fair with Scholastic Books in the fall and sometimes spring. Parents assist children while they shop for books and others educational materials.
Box Tops – This one person committee organizes (chooses a theme, keeping totals for all classes, etc.) the box top program for the school and then purchases recess (indoor and outdoor) equipment from the proceeds.
By laws – This committee is responsible for reviewing the PTA by laws and updating them as needed.
Classroom Book Club – A way to for each class to build their classroom library: be part of the team by helping to choose books that will be donated.
Curriculum – This committee is responsible for attending monthly meetings to discuss the ever-changing state standards and requirements with representatives of each RVC school. Information is then shared with the Covert community at PTA meetings.
CSA - Red Ribbon Week – This Committee coordinates in-school projects that address drug and alcohol awareness and plan “Red Ribbon Week”. Attendance at four or more district CSA meetings is required.
Family Game Night – This committee coordinates the food and activities for a fun-filled family night.
Field Day – Rumored to be one of the best days Covert all year! With the help of parents, students spend a spring day engaged in fun and games. This committee organizes the PTA provided lunch, water and snacks for the students.
Friday Treats – This committee orders yummy snacks for sale on Fridays after school. The chair accounts for the sales and is responsible for bringing proceeds to the treasurer.
Hospitality – The committee prepares light fare for our monthly PTA meetings.
Responsibilities also include coordinating refreshments for Back to School Night (September).
Ice Cream – This committee schedules parent volunteers to sell ice cream daily, order ice cream, account for ice cream sales, bring proceeds to the treasurer and call parents to remind them that are scheduled to sell ice cream.
Membership – This one-person committee is responsible for distributing PTA membership solicitations to the Covert community, collecting dues and distributing membership cards.
Moving Up – This committee provides the reception for after the 5th grade moving up ceremony. It is composed of 4th grade parents in preparation for fifth grade.
Pick a Reading Partner (PARP) – PARP is a paired with Covert’s Literacy Week celebration in February. This committee plans various activities for that week promoting reading.
Picture Day – Know how to put a smile on a child’s face? Then we need you at Picture Day! Coordinate class and individual pictures, which are scheduled for a day in September, and individual pictures again in the spring. Responsibilities also include collecting picture money and distribution of pictures and collection of unwanted pictures.
Plant Sale - Do you like gardening? Then this is the committee for you. Responsibilities include coordinating with the nursery and choosing plants to be offered for sale, sending out and collecting order forms, tallying and placing order with nursery and ensuring that plants are delivered in time for Mother’s Day. In addition, the chair is also responsible for bringing all proceeds to the treasurer and arranging payment to the vendor.
Reflections – Photos, essays, artwork, songs, and poetry – all created by our children and based on a themed determined by New York State PTA. This committee distributes the information packet, collects the entries, and sets up outside judging.
School Supplies – This one-person committee works with a Covert teacher liaison to compile supply lists for the following school year. The committee chair is responsible for sending out and collecting order forms and distributing supply packets. This committee’s work begins in late January and ends with distribution of supplies in June.
School Directory – Be the one who puts the Directory together in September. All you have to do is enter the new kindergarteners’ information, shift current data in an established layout, and distribute the finished product. Knowledge of a word processing program is needed.
Teacher/Staff Appreciation Luncheon – Do you appreciate the dedicated and hard-working teachers and staff at Covert? If you do, then you will want to be part of the spectacular Appreciation Luncheon given each spring. Put your talents to good use for the “feel good” event of the year.
Teacher/Staff End of Year Breakfast – Do you want to say Thank You at the end of the year? This committee will be responsible for organizing an end of the year Breakfast for the Covert Staff.
Thanksgiving Pies – This committee organizes the orders, collects the money, and distributes the holiday pies.
Yearbook – The school year in pictures! This is a priceless gem for children in all grades but especially fifth. Be a part of the team that puts it all together by taking pictures or helping with the page layouts. An ideal committee for a fifth grade parent to chair with the support from at least 1 fourth grade parent to learn the ropes.
